The Romney campaign is having another bad week. The lack of tax returns is a common meme on websites: Democrats reminding people Romney released 23 years to John McCain but only 1 portion of a 2010 to us and the Republicans countering there is no need to release the tax returns because “there are so many things that will be open again for more attack.” (Ann Romney, 2012)
The trouble began with Mr. Romney claiming he was no longer a CEO of Bain Capital after February 1999. Unfortunately SEC documents show him as the CEO up through 2002.
The campaign shifted their stance from “he suddenly left” in 1999 to a long transition through 2002.
The confusion was made worse when Mr. Romney ran to five news stations and repeated a new stance, expressed by a campaign surrogate over the weekend as “retroactive retirement.”
Today, Ann Romney stepped into deep trouble with her ABC News interview claiming “you people” don’t need to see more tax returns. The statement has gone viral.
The Republican campaign is in trouble.
