Jelly.co: Meh but think of the possibilities

JellyGoogle is getting to be a painful search engine to use when looking for an answer. There are too many ads returned, too many links to retailers returned in a search, and too many large sites given preference over other sites. Worse, too much misinformation is linked as if it is accurate. This is why I usually ask my students to use Duck Duck Go or Bing – anything but Google.

Yeah – it’s about time to dump Google search completely – which is why seeing the announcement about Jelly.co was exciting. The hints since the April 2013 meme started to spread was intriguing. Now we know that the concept of Jelly is pretty simple. Instead of using Google to find an answer, or any of the dozens of terrible answers websites, the concept is to snap a picture and ask the question to people in your social network. Hopefully someone with authority answers.

I can see misinformation being spread about even more with a poorly developed network but let’s not be cynical with a new concept. Let’s consider the possibilities regarding people helping people.

So – I tried to install the app on my Nexus 7. The app wouldn’t install, returning a message “Your device isn’t compatible with this version.” Drats.

So – I tried the app on the iPhone and started having a good time with the first question. How do you get a kid to eat broccoli? Some of the answers were funny. Sorry, I will not spoil the fun.

Try the app. Try to ask some questions. Try to answer some questions. Enjoy.
