My query about Tablet PC and UMPC innovations has caused quite a flurry. Per request, Warner posted a thread on GottaBeMobile where there are already enough suggestions to keep development teams working for several months, at least. People are sharing important ideas about expectations about where they see future with handwriting, touch, and power management. Using touch and improving Pen centric navigation is also up there. Brilliant.
My brother, Layne, replies and says he wants wire and connector free device connection improved in peripherals so they can "attach" to his UMPC.
Layne also raises the issue of too many separate PCs in his life. Come to think of it, he’s right. I use a Tablet PC by day and a UMPC by nights and weekends. WIN posts are usually written on the UMPC via the Windows Vista TIP (this one is). Also, the UMPC is my Windows Media Center PC – portable one at that – my eBook reader, IM place, and family and friend communication center.
So going back to favorite features, I’ll add that I can use this mini PC for home and it is a space saver. Improvement that I’d like to see? Improved handwriting recognition results on resistive digitizers (sampling issue). I have learned to write huge within the TIP to get more accurate results. It works fairly well, but I can imagine it being much better. That is another reason for me to get an OQO, as it uses an EM digitizer and I wouldn’t encounter this. Hummmm….
