- Talking to God.
Does the Celeron 333 and 300A processor have ECC on the L2 cache? The answer might surprise you. Initially, if you look at the Intel boxed product and the product code – there aren’t any references to ECC. In fact, you might immediately jump to the conclusion that there isn’t any ECC function – or else Intel would be telling everyone. So much for jumping to conclusions. Celeron 333 and 300A do have ECC function. In fact, the BIOS automatically detects the ECC and the BIOS cannot disable it – even if the option is in the system BIOS.
How did we find this out? We asked Intel technical support. A nice gentleman started by saying, “No.” He later called back (twice) and explained that his answer was due to the information he had in front of him. His co-workers disagreed. They escalated the question to the product support engineer. This person responded with “No” and then later revised his answer. It seems that there is a document stating that there is ECC on the L2. Apparently God came to the engineer and pointed him to the “little known” document which states there is support for ECC on the Celeron processors.
[Note: The product support engineer was actually referring to the next level of technical support. For those of you in the industry – you may have understood the different levels of technical support we were teasing. “God” is the third level of support. Sort of like, “God only knows.” The reality is that Intel has a “third” level of engineers – which confirmed the ECC function.]
- Humor isn’t professional
Today has been a funny day. Macromedia has a new version of software for editing HTML code. Unfortunately, it likes to change certain types of .asp file code. Therefore, some of you may have noticed a “working” and then “non-working” set of pages. Macromedia is trying to figure out the problem – until then – we will be switching between several editors. We thought the event was rather comical – however – some of our viewers didn’t agree. If you are having trouble viewing a page – then please let us know. We certainly would like to track down any bad links and references. - Iiyama is offering a rebate for some of their 17″ monitors.
- OEM PII 350 processors are actually retail?
Some of the OEM product that we’ve shipped have actually been Boxed product. The reason is very simple. While the authorized channel is backordered in the thousands – the third tier distributors have product readily available. Therefore, we’ve been buying our “tray” 350 MHz product from the third tier and marking the product as OEM. All our Boxed processors are purchased through authorized distribution. - Have we been too quiet about our new YY cases? Yes, we are excited about your overwhelming, positive responses. We received another shipment of YY-5371 midtowers today.
