XenWord 3.0.6.03 Release Candidate 2 is Now Available

The Second Release Candidate is now available for download in the store.

XenWord 3.0.6.03 is now available in the download area of the store. This release contains bug fixes for the first release candidate. I had expected that the first release candidate would be the only one before moving to a gold release, however, five minor bugs were reported and needed to be fixed. This release is hopefully very stable and can be moved to gold.

The release is installed on Tux Reports, and this post’s comments will show off some of the XenWord features. Please test this release on a development environment before using it on a live production website.

XenWord is a simple, incrementally developed bridge between XenForo community forums and WordPress. Development began in the summer of 2013 with the initial release available in January 2014.

BBCode fixes are the most important changes to this release. The copy of XenForo replies to comments needed BBCode to be parsed properly. The same was true for the author box.

In fact, the XenForo profile switch was not working properly in the first release candidate and was missing an important conditional.

Next, the multisite files were combined into one and the default was changed to false. Ultimately the xenword-admin.css was organized into the same layout as the public.css.

The last change involves the forum select dropdown list in the post creation area. The listing indents the forums into different depths, taken from the XenForo database.

( 113 ) Release Candidate 3.0.6.03 – June 5, 2016

Bug Fix: Links to conversations and alerts updated for non-Full Friendly URLs
Bug Fix: illegal string offset admin_array
Bug Fix: BBCode parsed in XenForo posts to WordPress comments
Bug Fix: BBCode parsed in XenForo about for author box
Bug Fix: Conditional to turn off using XenForo about for author box
Forum select metabox shows categories and uses indents for forums
Started organizing the xenword-admin.css
Wrapped conditionals around multisite and toolbar
Changed multisite file defaults to false

What’s next?
Now that the XenWord plugin has entered release candidate stage, the focus will shift to fixing bug reported in the bug forum. As bugs are squashed then the plugin will move from release candidate to gold. No new features will be added until this version sequence is complete.

Pre-Sales Questions
Please ask any questions regarding this release in the pre-sales forum.

New Installations

Before installing the XenWord plugin, please make sure you aligned the IDs and user_ids for the administrator, editor, contributor accounts. The www settings for WordPress and XenForo must be the same (including capitalizations). Create WordPress Administrator, WordPress Editor, WordPress Author, and WordPress Contributor user groups in XenForo. After activation, you must set the absolute path to XenForo. Next, turn on advanced user mapping and map the secondary user groups to WordPress roles.

Do NOT use FTP to upload this plugin. Please use the Add New plugin under the WordPress plugins area.

Upgrading
Please do not overwrite older versions of XenWord. Upload the zip file through the plugins –> Add New. Deactivate the older version. Login with your WordPress admin account, activate the new XenWord version. You will be asked to Login with the XenForo admin account. Go through all settings in the XenWord Settings Panel. Save and test.

Support

Please do not open a support ticket or send a private message. If you run into issues then please open a new thread in the support forums. It’s vital that you add as much information as possible to help figure out the issue.

Documentation
New documentation for this version is slowly being uploaded. Video and screenshots may vary based on the release, therefore, feel free to post any suggestions and request clarification in the support forums.

I appreciate all of the feedback so that XenWord is improved.

We have just launched our new site together with XenWord. It's working great 🙂 We currently connect even three systems, XenForo and WordPress with XenWord and XenForo and MediaWiki with the CMF MediaWiki Bridge.

WOW !  The integration is very tight. How on earth did you get that drop down to work properly in WordPress? Please share that code / tutorial with others. It really tightens things for the visitor.

In the coming days I will write a short tutorial for it. I've created a own theme, based on the XenForo template. The whole CSS is controlled via the XenForo. There we created a CSS template for it. We had to integrate a few Java scripts from the XenForo for the popups.
