Microsoft makes good on the promise to become carbon neutral.
Pilot Hill Wind Project in Illinois will sell 175-megawatts of wind energy to Microsoft. The energy will power Microsoft’s Chicago data center. This is Microsoft’s second wind farm deal: In 2013 Microsoft purchased 110 megawatts of wind energy from the Keechi Wind Farm in Texas.
“Microsoft is focused on transforming the energy supply chain for cloud services from the power plant to the chip,” Brian Janous, Microsoft’s director of energy strategy, explains. “Commitments like Pilot Hill ensure a cleaner grid to supply energy to our datacenters.”
