WinHEC 2007 Bill Gates keynote

Watching Bill Gates’ keynote at WinHEC 2007:

Vista’s first 100 days:

Nearly 40 million copies sold so far. Twice as fast as the adoption rate of XP.

Fastest growing area: Mobile devices. Showing a video of mobile innovation. Fujutsu UMPC, HTC Shift, Samsung Q1 Ultra, Gateway Tablet PC, Motion healthcare Tablet, all showcased. Now Bill Gates is showing the devices on stage. 40 million homes have mobile PCs–includes standard laptops too.

He’s now talking about the home network and the importance of ease of setting up the infrastructure. Demo of Windows Vista Rally–a network discovery and configuration technology.

Now demoing Home server. 40+ million homes with multiple PCs worldwide. Funny….they describe hooking up Home server by going from machine to machine with a setup CD. Uhm, what about UMPCs? I’m sure there’s a way to do it using a USB. Provides remote access to data via browser.

Now talking about Windows Server 2008. Expected to RTM by end of year.
