When did stories start to surface on the Internet about the Apple iPad? Google News Timeline is a great way to find the answer!
Let me tell you from the get-go that this service is much smoother than the Wayback machine. I use archive.org whenever something is lost – or I want to confirm a date for something. However, Google News is much more visual. Oddly, I’m not a fan of Google News. Google News is just a me-too, often too late linking site to large websites. They rarely find the interesting story. For technology, TechMeme is far superior.
Now, with that nonsense out of the way, let me explain that the Apple iPad stories started surfacing around Comdex time of November 21, 2001. This is a few years after the New York Times reported Microsoft was working on a Tablet. This quote says it all.
Tablet computing will be pervasive, Mr. Lampson said. ”I think this will be the way most people interact with the Net and with the rest of the computing universe as well.”
And now – here we are 12 years later and Steve Jobs (plus the team at Apple and OEMs) is hoping to release a device a market will embrace. We’ve certainly come a long way from the Macintosh computer introduction, right?
