Apple has to update their OS for Netbooks–is iPhone 3.0 it?

Lora, Layne and I have been watching Apple closely to see if they will create a Tablet or Netbook. Over the last couple years I’ve repeated a few rumors I’ve heard about a pending Apple Tablet although nothing has ever surfaced. Well, with recent news rumors that Apple is ordering up 10″ touch screens for this fall, my speculation is nurished again. Could this be it? Could Apple be set to create a touch Netbook…aka slate Tablet? Maybe.

There is one big thing Apple would need to do though, to make this possible: Update their OS. Well, it looks like the iPhone OS is going to get a refresh announcement next week. To me it makes sense to scale up the iPhone OS for a touch Netbook than scale down the OS X. So even with the several improvements that the iPhone OS needs (copy/paste, multi-tasking for chat, video support, flash, etc), is this a sign that a large iPod touch or Netbook slate is on its way? We’ll have to wait and see.

The timing seems about right. Developers need enough time to rework their iPhone apps so that they could operate correctly on a device with a different sized screen. And word is that the March 17th presentation is going to be developer oriented.

I could be reading too much into the Apple tea leaves, but hey that’s what makes Apple so much fun to follow. 🙂
