The public beta of Skype launched August 2003 and quickly became the application for communicating with family, friends, and co-workers. Microsoft announced the acquisition of Skype on May 10, 2011 and the takeover was approved by October.
The Verge today states Skype is being integrated into Windows 8.1.
Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have revealed to The Verge that the final version of Windows 8.1 will kill off the Messaging app in favor of Skype integration.
This is no surprise since users have been moving over to Skype since April. Now how long will it take before noise is made about Microsoft using its operating system as unfair competition?
