GearCrave.com: Predicts Tablet’s going mainstream this year

GearCrave.com takes a look at 10 technologies that are set to shape this year’s crop of products. One of them includes touchable displays and the adoption of Tablet PCs:

“As touchable displays take over cell phones, the door is open for greater interest in tablet PCs as well. Asus introduced the T91 at CES this year. HP and Fujitsu released touch screen laptops towards the end of last year. With Windows 7 offering more touch screen features than ever, this could finally be the tablet’s time to go mainstream.”

I’m not so sure that multi-touch is going to influence the Tablet PC market so fast. Multi-touch is one more feature, one more value proposition. Personally, I hold out greater hope that with multi-touch technologies we’ll see larger interactive displays (whiteboards with multi-user, multi-touch support) as well as smaller ones (Netbooks with touch) merge in as part of the standard set of Windows-controlled devices. Windows 7 provides the first steps, but I think we need more from the Windows team to really make touch shine.
