Tablet & Touch are alive and well at CES

I’m at Las Vegas, all registered for CES and getting ready for a busy day tomorrow. I opted for a quiet night, rather than going all out tonight after a full day of travel.

For instance, instead of fighting the crowd for the Steve Ballmer keynote this evening, I decided to watch it online. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it all the way through, but I see that Tablet PCs, touch, and the Surface computer all got stage time. I keep wondering though if the demos are effectively demonstrating the power of these devices–to users. I keep wondering.

What strikes me are all the touch devices I’m seeing at CES. Engadget has a few even this evening: the GiiNii Movit which runs Android, the sleek OQO 2+ with OLED display and the ASUS Eee Tablet t101h Netbook.

Put these together with the keynote mentions and you can see that there’s still live in them Tablets. That’s a good thing. CES is where we’re going to see forthcoming products and if the Tablet is going to survive, we’re going to have to see things here. And it appears that we are.

So as I sit here in the hotel room, planning my route and charging up all the devices, I’m excited to see first hand some of these new Tablet and touch products.

My goal is to post pictures and little snippets throughout the day and possibly do some live webcasts if we get enough bandwidth via the EVDO. I’m not sure if I’ll be posting to flickr, this blog, or friendfeed–I guess it depends how much I use my iPhone. If I use it a lot, I’ll probably trend towards small posts on friendfeed. No matter which place I post at the end of the day I’ll try to sum things up here–at least that’s the plan. 🙂
