After a little exploring through referral logs and the like we have a theory about why this site (and it’s companion blogs) were innundated with comment spam last week. Turns out a major site linked to one of my Tablet posts and from that link the spammers found their new victim….me 🙂
They seem to have gone away for now, which is the same pattern from before. So I’ve started enabling the comments again. Although this time, the comments will close after a few days. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I’m going to try that for awhile to see if I can keep down the time it takes me to maintain this blog.
Have you tried MT Blacklist?
It totally cut my comment spam down to nearly none. It was a cinch to install and the blacklist is huge.

Yeah, we’re running it, but this last spammer was able to get around it. So far, it looks like they’ve moved on….for now.
