In contrast to most of the vendors at Comdex focusing on the latest second generation Tablet PCs, Tatung was showcasing a future Tablet PC design with a twist–quite literally.
As shown here, this Tatung engineering sample has a novel way of rotating the display into tablet mode. The screen simple rotates around and positively snaps into place. To change the display there are no buttons to press; you simply press one end of the back of the display to spin the display around. The design is intended to be more robust than the pivot hinges used in the current Tablet PC convertibles. I’m not too sure if I like the looks of the display frame and I wonder if the display frame could be easily bent or broken. Hmm.
This isn’t a Tablet PC ready to ship any time soon, but it shows some interesting possibilities down the road. I was just writing down some of these specs and I realized I may be wrong on a couple of them, so I’ll wait for Lora to post them tomorrow.
You forgot the Tatung 15″ Tablet PC that will be released in the spring / summer!
