Smartphones: The Digital Cookie Trail

I love the camera on my smartphone. It is used throughout the day. Tonight, while communicating with someone via text message, it because easier to create a quick video with instructions and send it to them. This was easier than trying to text them through a process of using transclusion in a wiki.

If you love your smartphone like me and keep the location feature enabled then your habits are being tracked via a digital cookie trail. This is not a new threat but a real one begging for attention.

Photos taken with a smartphone contain information such as time and location of the photo. Combining the images shown in the photo and the digital cookie trail, anyone is able to figure out your habits.

If you want more privacy then keep your phone password protected, be careful about the images you share, and be careful when you turn on and off location features in apps. Turning off the GPS feature may be the easiest way to deal with leaking too much information.
