The Gorilla Foundation offers fascinating descriptions of interspecies communication. I’ve followed this idea since first seeing Koko as a week old infant at the Fleischackers Zoo. A poster of mother and infant still sits prominently in Lora’s room.
I think information on this site is a “must learn” about interspecies communication, including about Koko and her friend Michael.
He once described how his mother was killed and he was captured in the wild. Yes, really, with International Sign Language. Fascinating.
How would you plan a lesson about interspecies communication for preschoolers? Primary grade students? et al.?
Perhaps students can use the Tablet PCs and webcams to exchanges messages with Koko? I hope a teacher will find out. Please let us know what you find out.
I understand that Koko has taken part in online chats! Isn’t advancing electronic communication great!
