Walt Mossberg’s take on the Eee Top touch PC

Walt Mossberg tries out the ASUS Eee Top–a resisitive, single-point touch all-in-one PC. It’s kind of like the HP TouchSmart (which supports two-finger multi-touch using optical tracking), but smaller. At 15.6″ it’s much smaller and easier to move around than the HP TouchSmart. The price is a lot less too. $600 vs $1200.

Walt’s take?

“The Eee Top is a great-looking computer that brings the fun and accessibility of a touch-screen computer to people who might not otherwise afford it. If you can accept its shortcomings and sometimes slow speed, it could work well in your home as a secondary PC.”

Oh, for those of you thinking this machine would be awesome with Windows 7’s new liquid-smooth scrolling and touch. Think again. There’s a big question as to whether resistive touch devices like this will be supported in Windows 7. It’s too soon to tell. So if you’re thinking of a device like this for Windows 7, you may want to wait until the dust settles on what Windows 7 does and does not support.
