Vista on a MID? Really?

Jkkmobile questions my suggestion yesterday that MIDs and Vista are well suited. He suggests XP instead.

I get his point. Out of the box, an XP MID is probably a better match than out of the box Vista. XP is simply thinner and less resource intensive.

However, to me XP is showing its age. I’ve moved on. Almost all of my devices run Vista now.

But I agree that out of the box, Vista is not tuned for these smaller devices. I was trying to get at that with my post. My suggestion is that Intel or Microsoft or whomever start with Vista and start tuning it for small devices. Yeah, I don’t know how feasible this is, but I think it’s worth a try.

Of course an embedded OS is probably the best match for these small devices, but to make something competitive it too would require a lot of work. Yep, the state of affairs for these small devices is not so good. Is there any reason that the iPhone is a leader here?
