Neville Hobson (From Scoble’s link blog): “For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been using the new MSN Toolbar Suite of search tools since it was released. I uninstalled it all today and reinstated Copernic Desktop Search.”
I too have uninstalled MSN Desktop Search Suite for now. It’s still in beta and unfortunately it’s indexing seems to kick in when I’d rather it not. I imagine performance issues will improve as the product nears completion.
However, this past weekend I installed MSN Desktop Search on Lan’s home system and she can’t be happier.
Why the difference? She uses her home machine much differently than I do mine. I work all day on my computer. Seconds count. I’m compiling. Emailing. Constantly. Lan uses her desktop system for Skype, IMing, reading news, word processing and light emails. Her work system is an Apple G4. That’s where her performance matters.
What she really likes about the desktop search is the ease with which she can locate files. No more drilling down trees. She actually doesn’t have that many files on her machine, but as an Apple user she finds it easier to navigate her content now. Well, at least this is her first impression. It’ll be interesting to see if she becomes a desktop search power user.
