One of my favorite holidays is Halloween. I buy big bags of candy and give it away. It’s fun to watch the little ones freak when Pascal or Ellie greet them at the door (woof). The evening is filled with that simple trick and giving away lots of treats. There is nothing better than hearing the screams of fear. “Daddy! Those are BIG dogs!!”
Compare the Halloween fun to the spirit of gift exchange parties that happen a few weeks later. Yuck. There is nothing worse than putting on a fake smile, going to some stupid party, and gathering around in a circle as people try to take home the perfect gift. Can we say stupid?
But wait. Oh how the holidays suck even more if you don’t even get that invitation. Therefore you dash out on Black Friday and decide to buy yourself the perfect gift.
Now imagine a Christmas holiday solely focused on buying that perfect gift for yourself. Cool, right? This is when your selfishness takes over. It will make you feel awesome to buy that one gift: the biggest large screen TV, the best tablet, the perfect DVD movie or remote helicopter.
Selfishness ruled the 80s. Selfishness is good, just ask Gordon Gekko the fictitious character who said it best and millions of viewers cheered. But did you know that selfishness leads to unhappiness?
And, did you know that this is no longer the 80s? Selfishness is now recognized as a holiday killer.
Release your inner Scrouge and stop being unhappy. Don’t buy that perfect gift for yourself. Listen to this gentleman explain that money can buy happiness – when you buy the perfect gift. Learn how to spend your money the right way this holiday.
