The original droplet from Digital Ocean had to be upgraded in the amount of RAM or the mysql server would crash. After upgrading and watching the server a bit, the CPU usage would jump. My hope was to install varnish and nginx to lower the resource usage.
After struggling with installation for several hours, a tech support person pointed me to a wonderful article on varnish installation. Unfortunately the configuration file for varnish was too harsh and wouldn’t allow logging into the site. I’ve stripped most of the file down to just the first few lines until I can figure out how to get XenForo to play nicely with varnish.
As it stands, varnish, nginx, and apache are installed but not optimized. XenForo caching is not enabled until I figure out ownership of files on this server.
Update: Sorry about the spelling.
Does spelling count? May I confess that my eyes are half closed and sleep is overtaking my thoughts?
Title spelling is now corrected. Oops.
