Microsoft’s Action Plan to Help Transform Educational Opportunity

BEIJING, April 19, 2007 – Microsoft made it clear today where the company is headed with regard to education: full speed ahead, and in all parts of the world.

Bill Gates concluded Microsoft’s Government Leaders Forum (GLF) Asia conference by introducing the centerpiece in the company’s action plan to help transform educational opportunity around the globe.

Microsoft’s Partners in Learning program has been nurturing and supporting the world’s most innovative teachers and schools. Later this year it will expand to incorporate new innovations for students with affordable licenses to mainstream Microsoft products and services.

The new Microsoft Student Innovation Suite rounds out the company’s Partners in Learning program by adding an offer for governments that provide PCs directly to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

To help expand education opportunities worldwide, Microsoft is partnering with government, intergovernmental organizations, academic and industry leaders to facilitate access to high-quality education through dynamic, learner-focused technologies and resources.

Robert W. Heiny, Ph.D. is a retired professor, social scientist, and business partner with previous academic appointments as a public school classroom teacher, senior faculty, or senior research member, and administrator. Appointments included at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Peabody College and the Kennedy Center now of Vanderbilt University; and Brandeis University. Dr. Heiny also served as Director of the Montana Center on Disabilities. His peer reviewed contributions to education include publication in The Encyclopedia of Education (1971), and in professional journals and conferences. He served s an expert reviewer of proposals to USOE, and on a team that wrote plans for 12 state-wide and multistate special education and preschools programs. He currently writes user guides for educators and learners as well as columns for TuxReports.com.
