Commission on NCLB Recommends Effective Teachers and Principals

The Commission on No Child Left Behind (NCLB) hosted by the Aspen Institute released its report and recommendations on February 13, 2007, Beyond NCLB, at the Russell U.S. Senate Office Building, Washington, DC.

“The commission worked tirelessly and in a bi-partisan manner to come up with a comprehensive package of reforms that we believe will significantly improve the law.”

The 75 recommendations in the report focus on making sure teachers and principals are effective, improving accountability measures, effective school improvement and student options, rigorous standards, and strengthening high schools.

This commission is a bipartisan, independent effort dedicated to improving the No Child Left Behind Act. It has spent the last year traveling across the country, listening to the experiences of students, educators, parents, administrators, state and district officials, experts and policymakers. This report outlines specific and actionable recommendations for establishing a high-achieving education system.
