I’ve been thinking about Loren’s comments about what he sees as possible changes in software applications and operating systems in foreseeable ultra-mobile pcs. In general, he suggests that content may become king in the use of PCs. That’s a major change.
Loren said April 27,I’m thinking of more than web pages (changes) here … What I’m trying to get at is that the content becomes king … Consistency in content sharing, downloading, synching, and archiving becomes very important because all the apps will need it. These should become OS/built-in infrastucture features.
Yes, I agree with this line of thinking. I expect that when content takes the lead in computer software development, then teachers will find more uses for a Tablet PC, its iterations and descendents.
Such a lead will mean that learning and content specialists can (should?) lead in developing most of that software.
I know Lore works with content and learning specialists, but I wonder how many other ISVs and developers are preparing to work with these specialists? They use different vocabulary, and sometimes different logic patterns. Many of them I know over the years intentionally do not work with straight-line thinking the way programmers code content.
Also, several schools of thought exist about what the word learning and the term to learn mean. Future looking software developers may want to consider how their styles of thinking matches with various meanings of learning. I think this can be done, but not simply nor quickly.
Hmm. If Loren’s scenarios become reality, the future looks better for the use of more electronic tools in schools.
