Stephen Downes points out John Seely Brown‘s speculation that
the new techno-economic paradigm becomes generalized as the ‘new common sense’ which gradually finds itself embedded in social practices, legislation and other components of institutional framework. Oh, like in the age of automobiles and mass production – changed completely what we thought was normal and obvious.
Downes cautions that the ‘new common sense model’ … will prevail once computing becomes essentially free and connection becomes ubiquitous.
Downes and Brown’s ideas are not new or unique. They do offer an informed image Tablet PC education ISVs may use to plan strategies for marketing products to educators who accept Brown’s point.
I wonder how Brown’s ideas influence software purchasing decisions by educators who do not accept his point? Hmm.
