Two weeks of my summer was spent on the wonderful San Jose State University campus. For almost 10 hours a day, about two dozen teachers studied the curriculum for Principles of Engineering (POE) developed by Project Lead the Way (PLTW).
This is not my first course at SJSU and PLTW. I spent two weeks learning the Introduction to Engineering curriculum last summer then taught the material to high school students last year.
There are advantages to being in a classroom with others. In the case of PLTW training, there is a comradery which develops as each teacher struggles to complete assignments within the established time frame. PLTW courses are not always easy, with many midnight hours being met.
However, I’m really excited to start classes this fall using edX. These courses are taught by instructors from Harvard, UT Austin, Berkeley, Delft, etc.
I am currently registered in these four courses:
CTB3365x Introduction to Water Treatment (DelftX)
ET3034TUx Solar Energy (DelftX)
CS50x Introduction to Computer Science (HardvardX)
UT.1.01x Energy 101 (UTAustinX)
Sadly there is not more time in a day to register for even more courses.
Best wishes to you, Dr. T, and your STEM students as you use what you learned in classes this Fall. Please let us know how it goes.
Thank you.
