General Mills Cheerios Says Goodbye to GMO

cheerio

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are common in today’s foods sold in the marketplace. They were initially introduced in 1994 and spread worldwide. Almost all foods now include DNA replaced (modified) portions. Even animals raised for slaughter are fed left-over GM products.

Advocates of the process claim the modifications are for resistance to pathogens and herbicides.

In contrast, activist groups have been working diligently to stop the use the method of genetic engineering of food. The spread is so wide that concerns have grown that the human body does not tolerate GM foods well.

General Mills has now reacted to the pressures of activist groups and will no longer offer GM products within Cheerios. Specifically the sugar beets used in the recipe are no longer genetically modified. General Mills states they have no plans to phase out other GMO products.

Look for the label, “Not Made With Genetically Modified Ingredients.”
