Associated Press analyzed survey data and concluded 4 out of 5 adults in the United States live in or near poverty.
More than 19 million whites fall below the poverty line of $23,021 for a family of four, accounting for more than 41 percent of the nation’s destitute, nearly double the number of poor blacks.
Current projections are that by 2030 close to 85 percent of all working-age adults in the U.S. will experience bouts of economic insecurity.
