Paradigm Shift
A learners’ view (ALV) of learning reveals choices learners make during the moment when they learn teachers’ lessons. This view identifies a sequence of choices by learners as they learn lessons. This sequence forms an observable, manageable, and measurable path of social actions for teachers to use when they intend for all learners to learn their lessons.
This view shifts the paradigm of vocabulary and its logic (1) from the convention of teaching lessons as teachers and theorists view learning (2) to a learners’ view of how teachers instruct those lessons that learners learn.
From a learners’ view, learning occurs in one step with one choice in a moment during instruction. All other observable social activity occurs by chance.
Use of a learners’ view by teachers during instruction accounts for how all learners learn lessons.
Theme
A Learners’ View (ALV) refers to choices people make while learning lessons. These choices do for learning from teaching what musical notes do for singers of songs composed by someone else. Song composers choose sound frequencies to form their compositions. Teachers compose their lessons from choices of sound frequencies and other ingredients of daily social life. Teaching combines the science of social life (the discipline of procedures), and technology of instruction (the discipline of capability) with the craft of choosing instruction of lesson content (how to present subject matter). Composing and teaching lessons that people learn consists of applying three sets of choices as social processes: (1) the science of instruction with (2) the science of learning, and both with (3) choices of subject matter (content). These three form a triple helix of learning. When combined as reported by experimental behavioral and social scientists, learners will likely accelerate, increase, and deepen (AID) learning to the point of everyone learning those lessons. Learning from a learners’ view occurs when learners solve problems as do the most accomplished members of society. From this view, learning serves society as a social oxygen the way the chemical element Oxygen serves biology.
Focus
Experimental scientists and educators simplified the instruction of lessons to the moment when choices of social processes translate teaching into learning with a finite number of active (essential) ingredients educators and learners routinely choose and manage simultaneously.
