Theme: Education is the only social institution that gives priority to learning.
EDUCATORS, AS MEMBERS OF SOCIETY, SERVE LEARNERS through the social institution of education. That service fulfills the Great Social Commission to describe what the most accomplished people have done and to convey it to those who haven’t accomplished as much yet. No other social institution gives priority to this part of society. At the same time, social institutions rely on learning to occur in order to continue and to adjust to changing circumstances.
Educators carry out this commission, so people can accomplish more than without their instruction. By doing so, society continues to exist and to adapt to changing circumstances in which it exists. In this way, people have increasing numbers of options from which they may make choices as they live their lives.
Technically, from a learners’ view (ALV), it is possible for learners to learn all lessons.
To the extent that all learners learn all lessons of all teachers, and learners increase their options and life chances, then educators fulfill this commission.
