Hilary Dartt reports that Geneva Saint-Amour, director of the Prescott (AZ) Unified School District’s new Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy, announced that the school will emphasize an “innovative educational approach.”
Saint-Amour said, “…administrators currently are working to ensure that each of the 100 freshman entering Northpoint this year will have a 2006 Mac Book laptop computer.”
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation granted $600,000 toward support of this new school.
That’s an ironic juxtapositioning of Gates Foundation funding and Apple computer purchasing.
Reminds me of the TV commercial where two characters kibitz about PCs and Apples.
I could not find any references to this, but I wonder if the school district announced someplace that they considered purchasing Tablet PCs (out of courtesy to the Gates Foundation) for these students, but selected Mac Books for X,Y Z reasons instead.
We wish good luck to all students attending this experience based program.
