This is the Year of the Slate

It’s official. With the Kindle 2 and now a larger format Kindle to be announced on Wednesday as well as some kind of tablet from Apple and Intel with its MID platform, and even the CrunchPad, this year is officially shaping up to be the Year of the Slate.

Actually, I guess you could even include the iPhone in this latest generation of devices.

What’s so ironic here is that Microsoft and its partners have pretty much lost their way. Yes, there are companies like Fujitsu, Motion, TabletKiosk, and Samsung doing a very good job of selling slates (Tablet PCs and UMPCs) in the IT space, however, as far as consumers go, not so much.

This is going to be very interesting to see how this shapes up.
