Bill Gates shares insights with Charlie Rose for the 12th time. Through this latest interview, he offers how he identifies, thinks about and organizes to address what he sees as unmet opportunities in business and philanthropy, including his thinking about education.
“This is the best time for being curious,” Gates comments. Curious people today have access to more information from the most informed and best thinkers and doers through electronic communications than any time earlier. He asserted this conclusion when talking about teachers and students.
Because of online sources, teachers can direct slower students to online videos and other applications, so they can catch up with their peers. Teachers can also allow faster students to use these online sources to get ahead faster than waiting for teacher directed lessons.
He referred to an electronic reader that more teachers and students will use to have easy daily access to world class scientists, scholars and artists.
He says that within five years, we won’t know differences between smart cellphones and PCs.
