A new Amazon feature provides the download of TurboTax.
Welcome to Amazon’s newest digital innovation – tax software downloads. You can now purchase a software title and download it directly to your computer, with no shipping, no wasted packaging, and no waiting. With downloads, you don’t have to worry about what happens if you lose an installation disc or your hard drive crashes – once you download the product, it will be available to you in Your Media Library.
Brad Linder suggests any move into the download arena is good. What do you think? Is the expansion of Amazon’s presence into instant downloads of software good or bad? Are you prepared to store installation files locally on a hard drive or do you prefer holding the CD or DVD? In the past year, I only purchased two software packages with CDs. All of the other software was purchased as a download and backups kept on a large external hard drive.
In terms of the TurboTax product, do you purchase the product each year? Are you now more likely to purchase the product because you are able to download it immediately?
